Design project of a conceptual dance school for girls

History

The client approached Yousupova Studio with a very unusual idea: to create the interior design for a conceptual dance school for girls. Having lived in France for many years, where such schools are very successful, she decided to bring this concept to Kyiv.

This is a story about a magical transformation from a strict and inaccessible businesswoman to a free-spirited and relaxed girl who fully immerses herself in dance and her desires. A girl with her fantasies and secrets. Today, “Pink & Purple” is not only used as an educational institution but also as a venue for bachelorette parties. Girls come here to meet, socialize, and share their secrets. Boys are strictly prohibited from entering “Pink & Purple.”

The studio took the matter seriously and carefully studied how similar schools operate in France. The foundation of the future space was based on cabaret colors: red and pink, and to add more authenticity, a portrait of burlesque star Dita Von Teese was included in the future interior.

We reviewed many locations but settled on a space located on the ground floor of a new building in the very center of Kyiv. This choice was influenced by the absence of partitions and walls.

The main challenges faced were the lack of heating, which was not even planned by the designers, and a platform in the center of the room. We addressed the heating issue with a climate control system. The space’s structural features were turned from a drawback into an advantage: since the platform in the center of the room could not be dismantled, it was converted into a stage for pole dance instructors.

The project was experimental, and the budget allocated was minimal. However, this did not affect the interior design. We made the floors self-leveling, painted the concrete walls and ventilation, and used a lot of mirrors, velvet, a well-thought-out lighting scenario, and blackout curtains to block out bright sunlight. What Dinar Yusupova is particularly proud of is the reception area. The reception desk is a unique design by the designer, crafted by Kyiv artisans from original sketches. The project took six months to complete.
